It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood…

20 minutes ago I delivered my last flyer in the Sun Valley area that announced my photography business and arrival in the ‘hood.  500 flyers delivered in one-hour increments over 5 days.  Remarkably, my sneaker treads are still holding up.

Walking through my neighbourhood, I have observed a few things I’d like to share with you:

  1. I love dogs, but dogs don’t like me putting things in their master’s mailboxes.
  2. 1 in every 3 homes has a painted rock on their porch that says ‘Welcome Friends’.  I like that.
  3. Lilacs are in bloom now!  Thank you for letting me sniff your flowers as I walked up your sidewalks.
  4. Canada Geese with goslings walk single file between the two manmade lakes in our neighbourhood since there is no direct bus route.
  5. My neighbours have taste.  I saw some gorgeous landscaping in my travels.  And I’m stealing all your ideas.
  6. Out of all the homes I visited, only one did not require me to walk up an incline or climb steps.  Just one.  Can you feel my glute pain?
  7. I had the opportunity to meet a few people as I played delivery person this past week.  The license plates are spot on.  ‘Friendly Manitoba’ is more than an effective marketing slogan.

Being new to the Sun Valley neighbourhood, new to Winnipeg AND new to Manitoba has made me appreciate the value of the word “neighbour”.  Even if you are in no immediate need for a photographer, but would like to peek at my beautiful outdoor studio that my talented spouse built for me, please drop me a line.  I’d love to show you his work.

And maybe you might want to steal some of our landscaping ideas;-)
